Over the years penning for Podcart, it’s struck me how many artists disband, call it a day and fade into the abyss. United Fruit, despite various hurdles, have continued to cement their place as one of Scotland’s most vital alternative bands.
Isle: ‘Kid’
Two artists that have stood out head and shoulders amongst a saturated electro-pop playing field are All Tvvins and Isle.
Holy Vision: ‘Money’
Mississippi’s Hayden Boy is otherwise known as Holy Vision joins a long list of gifted bedroom artists that have found their confidence and fortunately pursued their forté.
Brooke Bentham: ‘Oliver’
Set for release April 29th, ‘Oliver’ via Trellis Records is the sensational ballad by London chanteuse Brooke Bentham. Bentham manages to take the finest era of folk and mixes it with modern contemporary flair. This is an auspicious debut.
Blondfire: ‘Where The Kids Are (Tidlwav Remix)’
Dallas-based producer Alex McGhee aka Tidlwav has revealed his dazzling remix of Blondfire‘s hit ‘Where The Kids Are’. This is as immersive and heady as any great remix. Prepare to get lost in something truly special.
Field Studies: ‘Listener’
I could use a lazy comparison and say this is like Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley’s love child, but I think it goes a bit deeper than that. ‘Listener’ is the first single from Field Studies‘ upcoming EP Rainmaking. This is an epic track that speaks with grand gestures and a refined fervor rare in…
Yumi Zouma: ‘Keep It Close To Me’
‘Keep It Close To Me’ is the first single taken from Yumi Zouma‘s debut album, Yoncalla. Due out May 27 via Cascine, this may have a sparseness, but in its instrumentation lies the real magic. It’s sometimes hard to create a touching intimacy with electronic music, however, this is heart-welding stuff.
Mobley: ‘Solo’
Singer, songwriter and producer Mobley, aka Anthony Watkins has spent a substantial part of his life continent-hopping. His impressive creative CV has seen him compose dozens of pieces for stage and television, not-to-mention his live performances, which have seen him support the likes of Wavves. ‘Solo’ is our first taster of this electro-pop tour de force.…
From Oslo: ‘No Sound’
‘No Sound’ is the official video taken from From Oslo‘s forthcoming EP. A chaotic track with a bassline sufficient enough to rupture your internal organs, this leaves you feeling delirious, yet completely satisfied. With a furied energy, this will resonate with true rock fans. Photo by Tim Ware Photography
