The Wayne Devro Set – ‘birdsulfur’

Brian Docherty is the man behind The Wayne Devro Set and since 2012 has produced and collaborated with a wealth of Scottish peers including Malcolm Middleton and Shirley Manson.

Docherty has returned to songwriting following years composing for theatre, film and various art projects. He returns with new material including our Song of the Day ‘birdsulfur’.

I have to firstly thank singer/songwriter Finn LeMarinel for sending me this track, in his own words it is “pretty much perfect”.

There are a number of stereotypes often used to describe Scottish songwriters, but very few can be applied to The Wayne Devro Set. ‘birdsulfur’ provides a prominent point between vulnerability and wisdom. Although sparse, the glacial dynamic created is overwhelming at times, its beauty and serenity create a haunting tenderness that has crept into my thoughts long after listening.
