We have put together a list of songs that have stood out this month for a plethora of reasons. Please take the time to invest and immerse in them:
Many Voices Speak: ‘Video Child’
The debut song and the first single off her forthcoming Away for All Time EP, may be quite introspective, but singer-songwriter Mård knows how to coax a melody out with her effervescent vocal. This absorbs you more with each listen.
King Henry: ‘Don’t Stay Away’
Featuring vocals from LA/Aussie duo NAATIONS, this feels visceral in production and has a real depth in terms of its arrangement. Coupled with an addictive vocal, King Henry has penned an anthem.
Casino Moon: ‘Black Monday’
Layered with a delicate haze of fuzz, this is high quality alternative rock and it is infectious. If this sets the pace for what’s to come, then Casino Moon are a band to keep an eye on.
Tom Speight: ‘Running Out After You’
There are melodic elements in this song that elevate it to another level. With Speight’s vocal akin to the likes of Tom Petty, there is a country flavour here, but a song that has been catapulted into a modern ballad. There are real moments of stark beauty here.
IDLES: ‘Well Done’
This may feel like noise rock, but for me this is like a beautiful, fucked up alternative Madness. Delightfully unpredictable in places, this has a ruthless groove that we have you hooked.
Them Things: ‘Mythomania’
This is gorgeous psyche punk, it’s continuous full-bodied guitar hook reminds of an era where Zeppelin and the like were ruling music. It’s hypnotic mood and provides a weighty, beast of an anthem.
Tuska: ‘Da Da Da’
Indulgent and trippy, this is thoroughly glorious and sometimes feels ever so slightly off-kilter which makes it all the more appealing. Grandiose in delivery, this is otherworldly.
Saltwater Sun: ‘URWUR‘
A fully mature, yet sensitive contribution to the indie music lexicon, this is as grand in production as it is in its musicianship and is a reminder of how fully realised and rich alternative music still is.
