Ronboy: ‘Get Rich Fix’

Ronboy: ‘Get Rich Fix’

The ghosts of unwanted advice have a way of lingering long after graduation, and Julia Laws channels that particular haunting with the kind of precision that suggests she’s been waiting years to exorcise these voices.

Her first single since 2022’s ‘Pity To Love’ album finds Ronboy in confrontational mode, pushing back against the tired trajectory of societal expectations with a directness that feels both personal and universal. Co-produced with Samuel Stewart—whose work with Chappell Roan and Olivia Rodrigo suggests an understanding of how vulnerability can be weaponised—‘Get Rich Fix’ transforms those brash commandments into something resembling a battle cry.

Laws’ Pacific Northwest upbringing seeps through the track’s atmospheric undercurrents, but this isn’t the dreamy introspection of her earlier work. Instead, there’s a sharpness here that reflects her evolution from Fidalgo Island’s DIY scene to Los Angeles venues, from sideman to someone demanding centre stage. The single arrives ahead of her North American tour supporting Matt Berninger, a collaboration that makes perfect sense given both artists’ gift for finding poetry in life’s more uncomfortable truths. It’s indie rock that refuses to apologise for taking up space.
