TAPE TRASH: ‘We Will Collide’

Sometimes the best summer anthems arrive wrapped in anxiety, and the Norwegian duo’s latest single understands this contradiction perfectly.

Following their urgent ‘Since 94’, ‘We Will Collide’ finds Anders Magnor Killerud and Kristofer Mathias Staxrud crafting fuzz-drenched shoegaze that nods respectfully to the golden age of ’90s alternative whilst maintaining their own distinctive edge. The track operates as both daydream and warning—lush enough for car stereos but laced with the kind of uneasiness that suggests paradise might be temporary.

What makes this work so compelling is how TAPE TRASH refuse to be confined by genre expectations, throwing fuzzy and fiery post-punk and pop-punk curveballs that demonstrate the band has the confidence and skill to mould those three disparate sounds into something unique. As the second single from their upcoming sophomore album on American label Tiny Engines, it showcases an Oslo-based act that’s learned how to make ’90s fuzzpop feel essential rather than nostalgic. The result is music for those moments when bliss and dread occupy the same headspace—which, let’s face it, happens more often than we’d like to admit.
