Zola Blood: ‘Together’

What begins as wind chimes dissolving into memory quickly transforms into something more insistent, as if the London quartet have discovered new ways to make pleasure and pain occupy the same sonic space.

‘Together’ marks Zola Blood‘s first venture since 2022’s Black Blossom, built around what singer Matt West describes as a “sludgy bassline” that anchors the track whilst detuned arpeggios spiral overhead like thoughts you can’t quite catch. The influence of Nicola Cruz’s slow techno sensibilities runs through the arrangement, but filtered through the band’s particular gift for making electronic music feel oddly intimate.

This meditation on dependency—both musical and personal—unfolds with the kind of patient intensity that makes you realise how rare it is to find artists willing to let ideas breathe rather than rush toward resolution. The accompanying video’s exploration of “threading,” where dancers navigate through each other’s movements, becomes a perfect visual metaphor for the song’s central tension: the complex choreography required when two entities are bound together, constantly searching for ways to coexist without losing themselves entirely.
