With their hypnotic new single ‘Autopilot‘, Berlin’s Sultans Court skilfully blend vintage psych-rock and soulful R&B.
The track glides in on Tame Impala-esque synths before smooth vocals steer us through a melancholic relationship autopsy. Frank words unpack the numbness of emotional withdrawal – as aptly depicted in the song’s road trip video.
Yet the polished production radiates a contemporary sheen, with the band’s influences assimilated into their own fresh sound. Sun-kissed rhythms and hazy psychedelia both find a home here, but Sultans Court stand apart with ‘Autopilot”s raw relatability.
Capturing the inertia of a dying relationship so eloquently is no easy feat. With its hypnotic sonics aligned with candid lyrics, they have triumphed.
