We have put together a list of songs that have stood out this month for a plethora of reasons. Please take the time to invest and immerse yourself in them:
Sam Fender: ‘Play God’
At only 21, Fender sounds like he has been on this road for years. Aside from the production being pristine, there’s a confidence here that you rarely find in a new artist. With an equally sizeable instrumentation behind him, this is an astonishing debut.
Best Picture: ‘Worms (feat. Astragale)’
Rich and accomplished, this still manages to drench a heavily electronic track in warmth. This is completely haunting and has a dark ingenuity that keeps it superbly intriguing.
Me Not You: ‘Kill The Noise’
This is a fascinating track, you start of feeling Boards Of Canada and move seamlessly into Breeders territory. Vocally, there are so many hooks it’s hard to keep track at times. There’s an underlying, seething darkness that makes this one of the most intelligent alt-rock indie songs I have heard in some time.
Pr0files: ‘Money‘
A striking release from the LA duo, ‘Money‘ has a feeling of romanticised nostalgia and creates beautiful sweeping soundscapes that carry you away in the moment.
Black Fly: ‘Sign 2′
Layered with so many intriguing elements including a vocal that taps straight into your heart, not-to-mention being one of the most captivating voices I have heard in some time, this is nothing short of spellbinding.
