The Pleasance Sessions Label Market

Saturday sees Edinburgh’s Pleasance Courtyard open for the Pleasance Sessions Market Place.

Working hard behind the scenes have been Dusty Moose’s Rae Baker and Gerry Loves Records’ Andy Lobban. Two staples of the Edinburgh music scene, they along with some notable others are always striving to keep things alive and illustrate the talent and hub of creatives that Edinburgh has.

The Pleasance Sessions Market Place promises to be a fantastic label showcase. Independent record labels will be gathering in Edinburgh in one spot, which doesn’t happen very often.

Labels/media and collectives billed to take part are:

A Modern Way // Gerry Loves Records // Olive Grove Records // Hobbes Music // Mini 50 Records // Soft Power Records // Lost Map Records // Fresh Air Radio // The Skinny // The Insider Festival // Soundhouse Organisation // Neu! Reekie! // Song, by Toad // Tabernacle Records // FoxBox Records // Make-That-A-Take // ITLAN // Folklore Tapes // GoldFlakeTapes // Good Grief Records // Hits the Fan // Secret Editions // Fuzzkill Records // Electric Fields // New Year Records // Chemikal Underground // Middle of Nowhere Recordings

I am a big fan of a number of these labels, and it is really encouraging to see that there are so many still within Scotland.

It’s now a cliché to say that the music industry is an unpredictable plain, but with grassroots advocates like this, it creates a starting point that many artists would not have had if self-releasing.

The event is free entry all day and there will also be live music curated by Gerry Loves Records and DJ sets:

2:00-13:00 Fresh Air
13:00-13:30 Kid Canaveral (Kate & David acoustic)
13:30-14:20 Tabernacle Records DJ set
14:20-14:50 The Jennifer Ewan Band
14:50-15:40 Hobbes Music DJ set
15:40-15:50 Neu! Reekie!
15:50-16:40 Electric Fields DJ set
16:40-17:10 Poor Things
17:10-18:00 Fresh Air

Everything kicks off at 12pm – 6pm and it is really important to continue to support these people.

You can find the Pleasance Courtyard at 60 Pleasance, EH8 9TJ
