It’s been an interesting couple of years for Be Charlotte, having established herself as one of the most hardworking new artists to emerge from Scotland, she has continued to perfect her craft and built up a significant team around her.
The Dundonian singer/songwriter has formed a solid relationship with praised producer Marcus Mackay, known for his work with Frightened Rabbit and SAY award winner Kathryn Joseph, not-to-mention a notable musician in his own right.
‘Drawing Windows’ is Be Charlotte’s latest release and illustrates Mackay’s production talents and her own refreshing look at the world. “The song is written from the perspective of someone being put through mental health examinations. I originally wrote the whole track with just a drum beat and melody, and then built instrumentation around it later. Lyrically, the verses have subtle references to ‘House Tree Person Test'”, she explains.
This is unassuming, unpretentious and showcases a young woman resolutely following her instincts which makes this song so appealing. She has managed to peel back the skin of her own thoughts and translate them effortlessly into a compelling personal anthem.
